About Blue Rhino
The Blue Rhino® story began in 1994
with founder Billy Prim's goal of building a national brand of propane tank exchange that
would capitalize on the growth in gas grill sales and year-round grilling. While safer and
more convenient than refill, tank exchange represented a small percentage of the market at
the time and was viewed as a commodity service. Blue Rhino has dramatically changed both
those industry dynamics.
A national distribution network was
constructed, retailer partnerships were established, innovative, value-added features were
built into the product, and a new brand was born. It was named Blue Rhino after the
strong, tough, interesting and fun-loving animals Billy had admired on a trip to Africa.
Today, Blue Rhino - a division of
Ferrellgas - is becoming a mainstay of the North American home. From our #1 tank
